Tap dancing is generally associated with the films and musicals of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. Tap today is a fusion of English and American styles. English is bouncy with lots of leg and arm movements, and American is more “earthy” keeping foot and ankle work very close to the floor giving a smooth more relaxed look.
Tap dancing is fun, helps fitness and is entertaining – anyone can have a go and in only a short time you can master the basic tap technique and develop a “step vocabulary” which is combined to create routines.
For the best experience you will need to invest in a pair of tap shoes from the start.
