This form of dance is generally associated with the films and musicals of Fred Astair and Gene Kelly. Tap today is a fusion of English and American styles. English is bouncy with lots of leg and arm movements, and American is more "earthy" keeping foot and ankle work very close to the floor giving a smooth more relaxed look.
Tap dancing is fun, helps fitness and is entertaining - anyone can have a go and in only a short time master the basic tap technique and develop a "step vocabulary" which is combined to create routines.

Jazz has a solid background in Ballet mixed with the relaxed style of club dancing. It is also a type of dance seen in pop videos and covers the style of dancing associated with musicals and West End shows such as Chicago, Fame and Fosse.
A typical class starts with an aerobic style warm up and stretches, followed by combination steps, finishing with a routine. The style of routine is dictated by the style of music chosen that week and can be anything from 70's/80's music through to R 'n' B and Hip Hop!

For both Zumba and Tap we recommend that you wear light, loose clothing which you can comfortably move in.
Footwear:
Tap
You will need to invest in a pair of tap shoes available by mail order from the school or from any dance wear shop.
